Barkley was surrendered to the shelter when his owner was very ill. He was well cared for and loved. Dog Walker Linda spent sometime with Barkley and had this to say : Barkley is a gentle giant!!! He has personality plus, is so handsome and just an all round lovely dog. I would take him in an instant if I could he is that special!!! He was heeling very nicely for me today and with more training he will be a wonderful dog to take for walks. Barkley has a calmness about him, I found him to be quite laid back, affectionate and extremely smart. He seems the type who would be a couch potato enjoying all the comforts he deserves!!!

Adoption Status: Pending Adoption Description:
Dog Walker Linda spent sometime with Jimbo and had this to say: What a dog!!! Jimbo is just full of it. He has so much energy, a big boy but still a puppy. I had a good time walking him today, he is easy to work with after some much needed exercise. It took a while for him to warm to me, but he came around and was very loving. I found him very intelligent, he seems to pick up on things quickly. It’s going to be fun doing some training with him. Jimbo has a beautiful coat, I love the markings on his face. Who ever adopts him is going to have a loyal friend who will keep them on their toes!!! He is just a great dog!!!!Please note that Jimbo will need a home with no cats or dogs.

Leon

Type:
dog
Breed:
Border Collie Mix
Colour:
Black and White
Sex:
Male Neutered
DOB:
1 year
Adoption Status: Available Description:
Leon is a young Border Collie mix who was hit by a car over Easter weekend and suffered a serious leg injury. Since the accident Leon has had two surgeries (one to try and repair the leg - and ultimately a surgery to remove his leg on May 1st). In the initial stages of fostering Leon there were some difficulties as Leon was to be confined to a crate for almost a month to try and make sure his leg was healing. Due to the fact that Leon is a puppy (and Border Collie mix) he had a lot of pent up energy and unfortunately he also showed some signs of separation anxiety (yelping, whining loudly and constant if left alone) and therefore required 24/7 supervision. However, since his amputation, Leon presents as a much happier dog. His foster mom Michele has this to say about Leon : He learns very quickly, is amazingly resilient, he is affectionate and loves attention and is finally being able to play like a puppy. Recently I have been teaching him how to play fetch with balls and sticks (he loves to chew sticks)Since he came into the Humane Society's care Leon showed that he was already housebroken by whoever owned him previously I have made sure to keep up with this(even though it meant carrying him up an downstairs and around outside when he was confined to the crate). Now that he's healed up quite a bit he is able to do stairs himself (but I advise supervision as when he is excited as he sometimes forgets he's missing his front leg). I have also started with some simple training to stop him from jumping up, getting him to come when called, and sitting for getting his leash on and to get treats). He would definitely benefit from further training to tame his puppy ways. Leon is an amazing dog, loves people, and loves other dogs (gets a bit overexcited around smaller dogs). I would not suggest him going to a home with no cats or young children as he does have issues with chasing and hasn't learned to respect boundaries yet. Ultimately, Leon is such an amazing boy with tons of character and will make someone an amazing doggy companion. AN APPOINTMENT MUST BE MADE TO SEE LEON IF INTERESTED IN ADOPTING
